Google Wave

I have to admit, it’s not often that I’m totally blown away by new technology. I see things like the iPhone or Microsoft’s Smart Table and I think, “hey that’s really cool,” but I don’t really see it as something that will change the world. It’s just a cool new gadget.

This is different. This is Google Wave:

The video on the above link is long, but it is revolutionary. It’s like introducing the bullet train to a world of horses and wagons. If you use a computer to communicate, this is going to change how that’s done.

No longer will email be in one application, document editing in another and IM in yet another, with Facebook and Twitter thrown in to make things complicated. With Google Wave you can use a single tool to create, collaborate, discuss and develop everything. Invite your friends to a conversation, but still keep parts of it private.

No longer will you need to go to a bunch of different forums or social networks or newsgroups to keep track of all your interests, they will come to you. Things you can’t do, or are at least are hard to do, with the current level of technology.

So if you use blogs or forums as part of your business. If you send emails to friends and coworkers. If you have a Facbook profile, a MySpace page or a Twitter account. This is what you’ve been waiting for.

And the best part is — all you need is your web browser. And yes, that includes the web browser in your iPhone.

So hold on to your hats, because this Wave is going to be more like a Tsunami. It will change the world, how we work and interact and talk to one another. And it will be exciting and fun to watch the transition.
