The nice thing about a well-supported product like WordPress is that there are plenty of plug-ins to help you do anything you want to do. If you’re big on Social Networking then you’re probably looking for plug-ins that will help you in that area. Below are listed a few that I’ve found to be handy.
#1. Tweet This.
Adds a “Tweet This Post” link to every blog post and page so your readers can easily tweet about your blog. It automatically shortens URLs for you and includes the post’s title after the link.
#2. Lifestream.
Lifestream is a plugin built on top of the WordPress platform. It allows you to effortlessly integrate your Social Network activity across the web with your blog. You can configure your Social Networking profiles on Facebook, Twitter, FriendFeed, Digg, and other sites so that they appear in your blog. It is an extensible system that developers can use to integrate with any online activity they desire.
#3. Tell a Friend.
Add a ‘Share This Post’ button after each blog post. The plug-in uses the free freetellafriend.com service, which allows users to send emails to their entire contacts list, social bookmarkings sites and favorites.
#4. DandyID Services.
DandyID is a free service that enables you to connect, manage, and share all of your online identities from a single location. It has the added advantage of letting your viewers find your real, verified identity across the web and provides analytics to let you track hoe people are engaging you online.
#5. Share This.
The ShareThis WordPress plugin provides a simple way for users to add your post to many social bookmarking sites, or to send a link to your post via email, AIM, Facebook, Twitter and more. You can customize the ShareThis widget on your site as well as register for a dashboard that will track share events and provide reporting.
#6. Sociable.
Adds links to your favorite social bookmarking sites on your posts, pages and in your RSS feed. You can choose from 99 different social bookmarking sites. The Administration interface allows you to select which bookmarking sites you want to have displayed.
#7. Social Bookmarks.
This is another Social Bookmarking plug-in. You can enable and disable individual bookmarking sites through the Administration configuration tools, as well as exclude specific pages from the plug-in. Additional sites are easily added.
#8. Social Traffic Monitor.
This plug-in monitors your blog traffic for activity coming from social news or bookmarking sites. When someone clicks on a link to your blog on one of the major social news or bookmarking sites the plugin begins to log the visits to that page. This data can then be displayed in the form of a graph of visitors per hour. Once you’ve set up your Social Bookmarking plug-in, this is the logical next step to track how well it’s working for you.
#9. Community Cloud Plug-in.
This plug-in displays a ‘tag cloud’ of all the people in your community who have contributed to our blog by commenting. The more comments someone has made on your blog the bigger and bolder their tag. People can see how big your community is in a more visually impacting way.
If you have a plug-in that you’d like to recommend, feel free to tell us about it. We’re always looking for new ways to maximize a web site’s effectiveness.
